Karsten Já esteve no Brasil anteriormente e tocou em Brasília na lendária Deep House Culture, festa promovida pelo produtor e dj Hermeto, que acontecia no Gate’s Pub no auge da House Music. Karsten dividi seu tempo administrando um selo musical, programas de rádio, gigs e outros compromissos pelo mundo afora. Esse é a vida de um dj internacional de pequeno porte nos tempos de globalização.

DJ Karsten John (Vinyl Vibes/Cologne/Germany)

In 1998 KARSTEN JOHN started a weekly clubnight called VINYL VIBES. It was soon to become not only a milestone in the club history of his hometown Cologne, but also an international trademark for tasteful jazzy sounds. While up to 800 enthusiastic clubbers cued every thursday night already an hour before the opening, the international jazz dj jet set (Conte, Jazzanova, Trüby…) never let go of a chance to join Karsten on the decks. Karsten John himself quickly became a worldwide travelled dj. Known not only for his extraordinary taste and the gems out of his record collection, but also for mixing original sounds from past decades with future breaks`n`beats of all kind. A true freestyler with the right empathy for the crowd that makes him please dancers on a funk night in the UK equally well as on a deep house night in Brasilia, a disco joint in New York, or on various club nights in Sydney, Montreal, Sao Paulo, Seattle, Berlin, Paris or wherever else he gets invited to. Though he can (and does) also play very specialized sets, on a good night he`s going to mix everything from 60s and 70s rare funk, soul, latin & jazz to drum`n`bass, deep house, funky breaks`n`beats and anything modern electric with a good vibe.

The weekly VINYL VIBES RADIO SHOW that Karsten did from 2003 – 2006 on the internet station Monofunk.net also helped spreading the vibe to a constantly growing world wide listenership.

In 2004 he founded VINYL VIBES RECORDS, a platform for new talents whose music he collected on his dj trips. The so far 7 releases earned him even more respect within the scene, and again, stretched the boundaries between the styles. VINYL VIBES RECORDS gave birth to a handful of heavily played club hits that attracted djs as different as Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Rainer Trüby, Makoto, Kid Loco, Jazzanova, Quantic or Patiffe. Straight No Chaser journalist Dom Sevini simply put it this way: “one of the best labels of the year – ace!”

In 2009 the Vinyl Vibes are still going strong with the clubnight celebrating its 11th anniversary and the label getting amazing feedback. And Mr. KARSTEN JOHN is again bringing his VINYL VIBES to selected clubs around the globe. Thereby he always follows his very own ideas of how to combine different styles and music for a unique dance floor experience…
